On July 4, 2025, reports indicate that jihadist groups killed 28 people in two separate attacks in northern Nigeria .

  • Sokoto State: Militants from the Lakurawa group raided a village in Sokoto State on Wednesday, killing 17 people. Residents believe the attack was retaliation for the killing of three jihadists by vigilantes in a previous raid.
  • Malam Fatori: Jihadists from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) attacked a camp for internally displaced people in Malam Fatori on Thursday, killing 11. Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) stated that 20 others were wounded and taken to a hospital in Bosso, across the border in Niger.

These attacks are part of a worrying trend of resurgent jihadist violence in northeast Nigeria. Since 2009, jihadist violence has caused over 40,000 deaths and displaced around 2 million people in northeastern Nigeria.
